When Life Happens

Pregnancy, Attendance, and the Conversations You’ve Been Avoiding

SYNOPSIS:

Your best assistant just told you she’s pregnant. Your front desk lead has called out four Mondays in a row. Someone on your team needs to hear something they won’t want to hear.

None of this was covered in dental school. All of it will happen in your practice.

These moments shape your culture more than any team meeting ever will. Handled well, they build trust and keep good people. Handled poorly, they create resentment, turnover, and legal exposure. In a market where every good employee is hard to replace, winging it is no longer an option.

This session gives owners and managers a clear playbook for the most common life circumstances and performance issues, plus a practical framework for having hard conversations with clarity, consistency, and compassion.

Join us as we explore proven strategies for covering your bases in the world of HR. Learn what works, what doesn’t, and easy ways to improve the crucial people-side of your practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn employer obligations around pregnancy, including accommodation and leave requirements
  • Apply attendance and time-off policies consistently, without playing favorites
  • Use a step-by-step corrective action process that is fair, documented, and defensible
  • Prepare for and conduct difficult conversations using a simple, repeatable framework

The managerial side of owning and running a successful practice can seem daunting. Yet, the rewards of private practice ownership continue to be outstanding. It’s time to invest in your team and yourself, to take action with wise and prudent HR decisions that will lead to the practice of your dreams. This journey begins with a commitment to learning, understanding, and putting a new HR plan into action.
